Designing a recruitment initiative to an audience of over 40,000 students.
Project Overview
Alpha Kappa Psi is a pre-professional business fraternity that provides professional development opportunities for college students. Opportunities include professional mentorship from individuals in various industry.
As the Director of Design, I independently created the brand and marketing for one recruitment cycle. Marketing included flyer and poster designs that were posted across campus, promoting our organization to over over 40,000 UC San Diego students. I was also in-charge of designing Instagram posts, t-shirt designs, presentation slide templates, and social media profile pictures to further promote our brand.
I first began with our physical flyer because of our printing schedule which required the
flyer to be printed 4-weeks prior to our recruitment.
I started our with a moodboard to develop an understanding of the theme: Capture Your Moment. The theme premise was developed by the recruitment chairs who wanted it: to encapsulate memories through photos.
Here are the final designs of the physical flyer
I then created branding guidelines for myself to keep a consistent brand.
My primary marketing strategy focused on promoting our events on Instagram. With over 600 followers and many of our members having our own personal networks, we were able to reach a wider audience versus other platforms. We also used features like reminders and stories to enhance our promotion beyond posts.
Additionally, I utilized Facebook to maintain event logistics and information with Facebook's Event feature.
I didn't have any deadlines for any of the posts I designed. To provide myself with a schedule for time management, I created this schedule for myself.
One of the most challenging parts of this role, was designing for physical media like a t-shirt! For this t-shirt, I aimed for a minimal look that was on theme but also one that could be used for Alpha Kappa Psi in-general.
While challenging at first, this was definitely my favorite part of the design process.
This was the first t-shirt I ever designed!
